The cost of maintenance may be seen as unnecessary, but as well as being in some cases a legal requirement to have at least a gas leak check done (depending on quantity and type of refrigerant). Often small faults are found before they become larger faults that at best cause increased energy consumption, extra wear of components, or at worst cause expensive breakdowns leading to loss of stock or loss of production. Usually the cost of the servicing is very quickly recouped by minimising this.
